Nevada-The Nevada System of Higher Education exists to serve the citizens of the State of Nevada. Our primary focus is to train doctors, teachers, artists, nurses and other professionals who can serve the citizenry. I strive to keep the Board and staffs focused on this purpose for existing.
Affordability-The citizens of the State of Nevada pay for 77% of the costs of our system, with the remaining 23% coming from the students. I work to ensure we are using our funds responsibly and that our academic and research programs are serving the needs of all Nevadans.
Sustainability-The System is a large employer and consumer within the state. It’s important to make sure we are leading by example and considering the long term costs, not just the initial costs, of constructing, operating, and maintaining our campuses. Every dollar we save on a power bill or garbage bill is a dollar that can go into improving education
Research-Strong research programs spur innovation to solve problems of future generations as well as bring dollars into our communities. As chair of the Research & Economic Development committee, I work with the campuses to streamline processes to allow for better flow of information and to let the researchers spend more time performing that research.
